December 3, 2010 “snow kissed”
“snow kissed”
take a walk with me in the snow
across the soft blanket of quiet snow
and listen with me to the hush
that has settled in the valley
on the cedar and pine
and rested in my heart
for I know you are mine
as we walk hand in hand
in the pure white glistening snow
kiss me among the fluttering flakes
falling feathers from angel’s wings
that tickle our smiling faces
leaving behind traces
of silver trickling across the spaces
that no longer exist between us
the melted crystalline passion of our lips
kissing in the shadowless glow
tasting the sweetness of love…and new-fallen snow

November 27, 2010 “outside the box”
“outside the box”
when the sunrise is rising
into your life
don’t think it’s just the morning
when dark clouds are parting
to show some blue sky
don’t think it’s just the weather
when the moonlight is lighting
your way in the night
don’t think it’s just a phase
when butterflies are flying
down deep in your heart
don’t think it’s just a feeling
when it’s sunshine and blue skies
moonlight and butterflies
it’s my love loving you

“love her”
*
broken heart
my
broken heart
torn asunder, torn apart
by another
for something other
by that evil
devil’s dart
fiery flaming
deadly aiming
eternally maiming
devil’s dart
that struck me
as I stood
where first I met her
beauteous eyes
assuring
never demurring
so alluring
beauteous eyes
and heard her honeyed voice
and bereft of any choice
but to listen
as the golden drops glisten
upon chords so strong
a dripping, gripping
siren song
slipping
into my heart
like a velvet blade
softly killing me
chilling me
willing me
to chance
to dance
through the fear
to music unclear
that I cannot hear
for the sounding
of the pounding
in my ear
telling me
selling me
compelling me…
to love her

A Sunday 160 @ Monkey Man
“care lessness”
set sail west
to the setting sun
to the arms of love
the arms of one
who beckons you come
o’er the tide
be ever by my side
oh, never mind…
you’re no sailor

November 20, 2010 “tears that you cry”
“tears that you cry”
I tasted the salt on your cheek
see the glistening corner of your eye
hear the crack in your voice
feel the tremor in your hand
as you courageously try
to hide them from me
and not let me see
all of the tears that you cry
but I see it all in your face
please tell me my darling why do you weep
when the sunshine is warm
and the sky is so blue
why is the sadness so deep
what are the fears
that draw out the tears
what are the secrets you keep
hidden inside of your heart
I wonder where do you go when you’re gone
when the world is too much
and it comes crashing in
when you feel like being alone
I wish I could tell
your escape from this hell
and help you carry this stone
November 17, 2010 “Optimist’s Limerick”
what’s a snowball’s chance in hell
not all that good I can tell
but I’ll take on those odds
and defy all the gods
and hope that this love turns out well

How do I
stop the world spinning
make a new beginning
change the universe
How do I
start it all again
do without the pain
try to break the curse
find true love

“iron heart”
***
rusted iron heart
of a rusted iron man
turned to dust
in the steely chest
of his faceless form
rusted away
a slow decay
through salty years
of raindrop tears
without the love
of his iron maiden

November 12, 2010 “dream forgotten”
“dream forgotten”
*
I awoke in the middle of a dream
in the midst of some scape
a fleeting vision
of happiness
contentment
or maybe sad darkness
a foggy memory
the fog entering
through my sleepy eyes
as they open
the dream fades into the mist
my heart
vibrating in my chest
like butterfly wings
reaching for the phone
by my bed
a familiar ringing
in my head
it was her ring
I smiled a sleepy smile
as my hand reached
I heard the ringing
the far away ringing
from deep in the fog
the sad foggy darkness
of a dream
misplaced
or forgotten

November 9, 2010 “chains”
“chains”
at the dying of the day
when the sun has set
and the western sky has bled
its flaming red blood into the thirsty black horizon
and the cold darkness of winter
with hard icy fingers
grips the night and the souls who are trapped in it
until all lies and untruths
strangled
bereft of light and being
are left lying
nothing but shadows of shadows
I am blinded by the thick jet
of fears and stark reality
truth
smothering
chilling
truth
hangs upon my shoulders
like sooted chains
like a hundred soot black chains
each link a memory
every memory
a breath
a touch
a glance
a smile
a sigh
a tear
until sunrise
I embrace the chains

November 1, 2010 “boat”
“boat”
boat
mast standing tall
pointing to the stars
keel laid at a word
in a whisper
by shipwrights
in the clouds
launched
on the siren poem
of a soft voice
crying from die Kaapse dokter
going to weather
fleet and yar
to the offing
and the future
by dead reckoning
making this poor dreamer
a landlocked sailor

October 27, 2010 “divine nectar of fickle gods”
“divine nectar of fickle gods”
luscious wine…
sun setting
in the glass…
red
sweet
gentle
exotic accent
disarming
charming
relieved me
of my senses…
subtle
alluring…
promised
bliss
eternal kiss
warm surrender
dreams realized
happiness…
cold breath
in the gloaming
fog…
waking
in a salty
rain…
pain
from lonely eyes
opened
to stinging truth…
an empty glass
love’s racemus
withered on the vine

October 25, 2010 “Love is…”
For Poetry Potluck
“Love is…”
Love needs no metaphor
it does not…seem
it is not…as
it simply…is
…unto itself
…of its own accord
…in its own time
…from where it will
…to whomever it will
…without regard
…without prejudice
…without conceit
…eternal
abiding in the heart
full of joy
tears
smiles
pain
happiness…
…faith
Love survives
time
distance
difference
death…
…life
Love simply is…
if you let it…
EVERYTHING.

October 24, 2010 “Heart of Plenty?”
“Heart of Plenty?”
my heart is no cornucopia
it suffers a great myopia
though cornucopian it may seem
a sweet myopian dream
it has no foresight
it needs only more sight
of you

October 20, 2010 “all by myself”
“all by myself”
*
everyday time spent
too much in a misty cloud
in a cool vapor
dreaming of oneness
a single face in a crowd
unable to fly
dying to stand out
to be worthy of my wings
dying to take flight
falling from the cloud
sweet hope eternally springs
I can learn to fly
alone from this cloud
into a far distant night
all by myself

October 15, 2010 “dying happy”
“dying happy”
too much laughter
down in my soul
comes a bubblin’ up
I just let it roll
I laugh too loud
at all the little things
and at the drop of a hat
my poor heart just sings
I’ve got a problem
it’s plain to see
won’t someone tell
what’s ailing me
my stomach’s filled
with butterflies
and every day
nothin’ but blue skies
beautiful dreams
when I sleep at night
and in the mornin’
it all feels so right
I got a problem
and you know it’s true
but I just don’t know
what I’m s’posed to do
too many smiles
wrinklin’ my lips
too much joy
at my fingertips
my eyes are full
of the stars above
filling up my heart
with too much love
I got a problem
that I can’t deny
I need some relief
before I up and die
what’s killin’ me
is a strange disease
too good to be true
can you help me please
been everywhere
cause I’m in a mess
looking for the cure…
for happiness

October 11, 2010 “ocean calling”
For Poetry Potluck
“ocean calling”
***
from the mountains I long for the far away sea
in the dewy mist of morning
I stand on a peak ‘neath a clear blue sky
beaming sunlight mountain adorning
like purple pleats of royal robes
over granite shoulders falling
flow riveled foothills and deeping hallows
ancient echoes of the ocean calling
from near the horizon beyond the offing
drawing my eye to that blanket of blue
waves as they rush upon a golden shore
carry this mountain heart of mine
the foothills and hallows of a mountain heart
across the roaming, foaming sea to you

passion’s heat rising
she eyes with wanton desire
he has no defense
*
his heart fills his mind
with uncontrollable need
yet she stands aloof
*
coyly speaks his name
sweetly dripping from her lips
blushing at the thought
*
hearing her soft voice
whispering from far away
drawing him to her
*
puppet on a string
moving only by her whim
love’s marionette
*
pulling him closer
trembling tension in her skin
strings tightly singing
*
wanting in her eyes
not a puppet but a man
strings now are binding
*
tangled in a web
one of her own creation
she cuts loose his cords
*
puppet no longer
his heart bound by her heartstrings
her lover still hers
*
eyes closed lips kissing
dance of the marionettes
strings fall to the ground
*
their wooden limbs freed
lovers splashing together
in liquid passion

September 27, 2010 “Ancient Voices”
For Poetry Potluck
“Ancient Voices”
the soft snow
falls without sound
as footprints are etched
upon ancient ground
where lovers once met
their vows here to make
and swear that love
never to forsake
listen…
to myriad voices
of ages gone by
telling secrets of old
to those who come nigh
sweet whispers of love
soft moans of tragedy
fleeting moments of joy
of lovers in effigy
buried together
beneath scarlet snow
in eternal embrace
and death’s pale glow

my scintillated mind

September 24, 2010 “night birds”
“night birds”
I kissed my Love this morning
in golden light’s first dawning,
among the fading shadows
as night bird’s songs were wanning
and sunbeams came a fawning.
My Love kissed me at mid-day,
high noon’s sun brightly glowing
under the shading oak tree,
with gentle breezes blowing;
the tide of passions flowing.
Two Lovers in the evening,
embracing ‘neath starlit skies;
complete in each other’s arms,
hushing passion’s heated cries…
night birds answer Lover’s sighs.
