My Irritations, Aggravations and Inspirations

April 7, 2010  “Fire in the mountain”
Today and yesterday I could look over into the mountains not far from where I work and see a great column of thick smoke rising from a raging fire.  Seeing the purple mountain in the distance completely engulfed in flame and yellow-white smoke is a sad thing to witness.  I know it’s a natural thing for mountains and forests to burn from time to time.  I know that new growth will soon reclaim the burned out acres; a life change.  What was old and rotten and, in many ways, stifling has been burned away in order for something fresh and vivacious to take root.  But, the passing of the old growth in such a sudden and violent way is, nevertheless, disturbing and sad.  In the years to come the acrid stench of the smoke will dissipate and certain beauty will spring forth from the tumult of the flames.  The mountain will go on and regain it’s former majesty and maybe even a better beauty.
Perhaps we all need to experience a little “fire in the mountain” from time to time in our own lives…might do us some good.
