My Irritations, Aggravations and Inspirations

June 19, 2010   “We Can Fly”

To my readers: This poem has been kept in private for a few years; it was written as a song, but since I have no musical ability whatsoever, I’ll present it as a poem.  Thanks for reading…

We Can Fly

She’s lying here beside me
Staring up at the ceiling fan
Telling me about all her life’s great big plans

I think to myself “Is there room enough for me?”

She makes me feel like I’m flying
Like I’m standing up ten feet tall
The higher I fly, the farther I have to fall

Am I ready to try to love someone again?

I’ve been two times to the altar, and two times before a judge
Each time I left a piece of my life behind
Broke my heart, and nearly broke my mind

I’ve got a lifetime of years behind me
Heaven knows what’s on the way
So I set the alarm to wake me for another day

Am I ready to try and make it once again?

I spent my life spendin’ my time
Spendin’ what I did not earn
Like I had lots of time and lots of money to burn

Now all I want is to spend my life with her

I’ve been two times to the altar
But she makes me want to try
She makes me see I can fly

I’ll live again, I’ll love again, and we can fly.

    Mr. Harris,

Thank you for visiting my obscure little blog and for your kind comment. It made me smile. You are welcome any time.
