My Irritations, Aggravations and Inspirations

July 30, 2010

if my heart
is this heart
that beats in my breast
I would
I had the power
to tear it from my chest
and toss it to the winds
as far as east is from the west
for as it beats I live
as I live, I die
not a life a hero can save
not a death dying for a grave
but the death of my soul
for the life that I crave
cast it to the clouds
for some blind fool to find
who cannot feel
the pain it left behind
who cannot see
the love scars so unkind
this aching, breaking heart of mine
this griever
this constant deceiver
loveless receiver
eternal believer…

It feels so warm in my slippery hand…

  1. So very sad, but hope springs eternal and the heart has enormous capacity for regeneration and healing.
    Nicely read Tracy.

    • As always, Thanks much, Cindy, for taking your time to read my work…I really love it that you do. This one is indeed dark…I was going for the dramatic gesture here to make this one reach out and grab the reader.

      BIG SMILE 🙂

  2. This is most probably one of your saddest poems ever Cowboy!! Powerful touching words spoken from the heart…maybe very soon you might want to change the last line to “It feels so warm in the grip of my hand” 🙂 Red x

  3. That was powerful. A chill ran through me reading it. The final image is extremely dark and disturbing.

    Well done. Regards…

  4. Such emotion and words of pain make the reader want to rush in with a tourniquet and a prayer.

The occupant of a sinking boat once said to his companion, you bail and I’ll pray. His companion said, I can bail and pray at the same time and so can you!

The words are very touching and make the reader empathize. The cadence adds drama and tension. Great poem. Thank you for sharing.

  7. Wow…
brilliant wordplay you’ve used here, Tracy!
    this constant deceiver, Loveless receiver,
    eternal believer — excellent !
You have so very well described the the sadder part of the heart and the related emotions that come with it…
How it lives in this constant hope – how it sees this constant light – and how with all of this, it hurts us even further…
    A lovely poem!

  10. Strong imagery which strikes the right chord in the heart. A painful existence it surely is. Great choice of words and comparisons. Loved reading it.
